Technology

The technology utilised in an operation will depend upon the relationship between the volume and variety of an operation's output.

• In a high volume context (IKEA), technology will be highly automated and inflexible and vry expensive to set up.

• Where there high variety, (a customised furniture factory), the technology needs to be flexible and small scale to be applied to a range of jobs. 

Then, of course, there is a directly related link to the jobs required and the layout of the operation. They're all related!
