Common Law - Rights and Obligations

Obligations are the legal responsibilities of a person / entity. 

The employer must: 

• provide adequate work / tasks; 

• pay workers, 

• meet requirements for employment standards under the 12 NES, 

• duty of care over safety.

The employee must: 

• obey lawful and reasonable commands made by employer, 

• use care and skill in performance of work, and 

• act in good faith and in the interest of the employer.
