Trade Unions

An organisation representing the interests of employees. 

Unions work to collectivise labour to enhance power of employees against power and resources of employers in order to improve wages and working conditions.

These organisations: 

• Lobby governments in the interest of workers (job security, higher wages), 

• Assists individual workers in claims against an employer (wages, discrimination, dismissal), and 

• Negotiates enterprise agreements on behalf of employees.

Examples include: CFMEU, the TWU and the ACTU (Aust. Council of Trade Unions)
