An employee is an individual that gains formal legal status through signing a contract to perform services to the hiring firm (employer). 

Employees desire interesting, challenging work and involvement in decision making. 

Employees spend significant time and energy in a workplace and desire good conditions, respect, and a positive culture.

Employees typically want job security (inflexibility) in employment relations and higher wages in order to increase personal income (in direct opposition to employers).
